Purdue will probably have a slight step back this year, but should be a top 10 team again in the 2025-'26 season, considering that you could probably name 4 out of 5 starters (and I'd guess at least 8 of the top 10 rotational players) for that future squad today. Do you see any other programs swinging back to that model of team building if it's a success, or are teams going to continually try to rebuild with up to 8 new faces each offseason?

We always walk about the NBA type of players making big Nil money and transferring in portal. Do you think this can hurt the athletes transferring all the time? Part of playing in college was the connections and attachment with the fan bases. Who by the way employ a lot of said athletes on their after sports life. Will that cost athletes in the long run?

Do a piece on Matt Langel at Colgate. Why he has stayed all these years and never moved on. Loyalty to a small program is almost a relic of a forgotten era. How has the landscape changed when kids may be great recruits but will now leave for NIL money at drop of hat and how the low mid major can continue to be competitive long term.

I'm very excited for the mailbag - thank you! There are a number of questions I would love to ask. For me specifically, I would love to know: What does new coach Jerrod Calhoun think Utah State can do in his first year? Slightly more broadly: Will the Mountain West repeat as the strongest mid-major conference in 2024-25? Or - to make it less about my specific interests - what is the biggest question that you have going into next season? Answering any of those questions would be great. Thanks Seth!

Seems that Villanova has lost 2 players who agreed to transfer and then changed their minds? There were no explanations from either the players or Villanova. Any thoughts why this happened? Does Nova just not have enough NIL money? Has it happened to other schools this year?

Seth—the country suffers from a lack of a willingness for/from people to learn and synthesize new information; and to admit when they are/were wrong.

Unbeknownst to me there is a debate related to the legality of the “step through” debate in basketball and it turns out that there is a video of your commentary related to the move. (https://x.com/StepThroughJoe/status/1797000707792416908)

With 17 years of time having passed between the video and now, I am curious if you will revisit and analyze this scenario with a fresh set of eyes and additional years of experience and education.

Do you stand by your original comments? Would you change them? What does the rule book say about your original comments? Does the rule book inform your original commentary? Would the rule book lead you to revise your original commentary?

How will schools line Creighton be competitive in paying athletes in men’s basketball where football schools generate so much revenue?
