And down the stretch we come. The start of the NCAA tournament is just seven days away, so there’s not much time to gather all your last-minute intel on the teams who will play in it. Fortunately, your intrepid reporter has returned to take you behind enemy lines and get the straight truth on the nation’s top teams.
Over the last several days, I interviewed three coaches, both head coaches and assistants, from the Pac 12, SEC and West Coast Conference and asked them to give me their candid assessments of the top teams in their leagues. I granted each of them anonymity so they could be truthful. Then I probed them to discuss each team’s deficiencies, the kind that could trip up a squad in the early rounds of the NCAA tournament. So if these reports seem overly critical, it’s because of my line of questioning. I wanted to get to the truth.
